Banks in Nigeria are set to go on a two-day nationwide strike from September 5 and 6, 2023. The strike notice was issued by the National Union of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institution Employees, in compliance with the directive from the Nigeria Labour Congress. In a memo dated September 2, 2023, the union’s General Secretary, Mohammed I. Sheikh, expressed concern over the government’s interference in union affairs instead of addressing the challenging economic circumstances. The strike aims to draw attention to these issues.
