Suspected bandits have attacked the Nigerian Army Post-Service Housing Scheme in Kurudu Estate.

After intermittent gunfire, three inhabitants of the estate were taken hostage by the assailants, according to Channels TV.

Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the director of army public relations, confirmed the attack and informed the TV station that it occurred on Thursday at around 9:00 p.m.

Residents of the estate said gunmen fired gunshots before escaping with their victims.

However, Mr Nwachukwu disclosed that the troops have responded to a distress call from the estate and are currently on a search and rescue operation.

Kurudu is one of the communities on the border between the FCT and Nasarawa State and is located in the Abuja Municipal Area Council.
