US backs Ukraine, UN Secretary-General intervenes as Russia orders military operations in Ukraine

NEWS DIGEST – Russian President Vladimir Putin, in the early hours of Thursday announced a “special military operation” in Ukraine.

The Russian president said this in an emergency televised address that the order of the military operation is intended to protect civilians and to disarm Ukraine, and also to serve as a reaction to threats coming from Ukraine.

He said that his doesn’t plan to invade Ukraine but that Ukrainian military should swiftly lay down its arms.

Putin announced that any attempt to impede with Russia’s action will trigger an immediate reaction from Russia, and will lead to “consequences they have not seen before.”- an indirect word from him to launch World War 3.

Immediately after Putin’s televised speech, explosions were reported in Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, and cities like Kharkiv, Mariupol, and Odesa.

The Russian president statement comes after he said on Monday that Russia understands the Luhansk and Donetsk regions in eastern Ukraine as independent, and signed a decree to authorize the Russian Defense Ministry to send troops into the area for “peacekeeping operations.”

“THIS CONFLICT MUST STOP NOW.” – UN Secretary-General wades in

The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, has involved himself and the UN to appealing to the Russian president to cease from invading violence on Ukraine and the world at large.

He said this in a tweet on Thursday via his official handle.

António Guterres tweeted, “Under the present circumstances, I must change my appeal:

President Putin, in the name of humanity, bring your troops back to Russia.

This conflict must stop now.”

Meanwhile, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg released a statement on Thursday to condemn the action of Putin.

He said, “I strongly condemn Russia’s reckless and unprovoked attack on Ukraine, which puts at risk countless civilian lives. Once again, despite our repeated warnings and tireless efforts to engage in diplomacy, Russia has chosen the path of aggression against a sovereign and independent country.”

JOE BIDEN, DONALD TRUMP REACT

The President of United States of America, Joe Biden, had on Wednesday released a message that the Russian president has authorized a planned war that will bring a destructive loss of life and bring suffering to humanity.

Joe Biden said, “Russia alone is responsible for the death and destruction this attack will bring, and the United States and its Allies and partners will respond in a united and decisive way. The world will hold Russia accountable.”

The president said Ukrainian are not left behind, assuring he will oversee the situation from the White House in the evening and get periodic updates from the national security team.

“The prayers of the entire world are with the people of Ukraine tonight as they suffer an unprovoked and unjustified attack by Russian military forces.”

“Tomorrow, I will meet with my G7 counterparts in the morning and then speak to the American people to announce the further consequences the United States and our Allies and partners will impose on Russia for this needless act of aggression against Ukraine and global peace and security.”

“We will also coordinate with our NATO Allies to ensure a strong, united response that deters any aggression against the Alliance. Tonight, Jill and I are praying for the brave and proud people of Ukraine.”

Also, former President of USA, Donald Trump told Fox News that, “This should have never happened. It would have never happened under my administration. It’s a very sad thing for the world, for the country, and it’s certainly very sad for a lot of people who are going to be needlessly killed.”

The Time To Act Is Now – Ukrainian government

Subsequent to Putin’s declaration, Ukraine Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said in a statement released on behalf of the country that the Russian President, has launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, thereby, putting peaceful Ukrainian cities under strikes.

He tagged the action Putin as “a war of aggression.”

He said, “The world can and must stop Putin. The time to act is now.”
