Yobe State Governor Calls for World Bank Support to Tackle Impending Floods

Yobe State governor, Mai Mala Buni has urged the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL

), a World Bank program, to support the government’s efforts in addressing the anticipated floods during the rainy season.

Buni made the call on Tuesday during a meeting with a delegation from the World Bank and ACReSAL.

He emphasized the importance of constructing drainage systems to divert floodwaters away from towns and communities as a key measure to prevent flooding.

“This should be treated as a matter of emergency and urgent public importance to avert the looming threat posed by the anticipated flood”, Buni said.

He further appealed that adequate measures must be taken to support the resilience of resettled communities, as well as the resettlement programme of the state government by saving the reconstructed houses from the threat of flood.

The ACReSAL Team Leader, Ms Joy Iyanga Agene, assured to support the state government to save the people.

She commended Yobe State government for providing conducive environment that enhanced the performance of projects in the state.
