A 17-year-old student identified as Dylan Butler unleashed horror at Perry High School in Iowa, wielding a shotgun and a handgun.

The incident resulted in the tragic death of a sixth-grader and left five others injured as terrified individuals sought refuge in classrooms.

Authorities believe Butler died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Perry High School Principal Dan Marburger was among the wounded during the chaotic first day of classes after winter break.

The motive behind the attack remains under investigation, with authorities examining social media posts made by the suspect.

Friends of Butler mentioned his history of being bullied, shedding light on a possible motive for the disturbing events that unfolded.

The suspect’s motive was being investigated and authorities were looking into “a number of social media posts” he made around the time of the shooting, Mortvedt added.
