Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has denied criticising the team’s lodging arrangements in Morocco ahead of Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying playoff match.
A video shared by the Fulham player had gone viral on social media, showing what appeared to be substandard accommodation. The footage sparked outrage among fans, who described the facility as unfit for the national team, with some comparing it to a school hostel.
Reacting to the controversy, Iwobi clarified that he never made any negative remarks about the hotel, explaining that his post was misinterpreted.
“I didn’t say anything; I just showed the video,” he stated, suggesting that online reactions exaggerated the situation.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) also addressed the matter, confirming that the team is staying at RIVE Hotel in Rabat. The federation explained that the viral footage showed an old building visible from a window, not the team’s actual accommodation.
According to the NFF, the hotel was selected due to its close proximity to the training ground and match venue.
Meanwhile, the Super Eagles have shifted focus to preparations for their decisive World Cup qualifying clash against Morocco, with the incident highlighting how quickly social media content can fuel public misunderstanding.
