Working With Buhari: Done and Dusted Amidst Glamour, By Gidado Shuaib

NEWS DIGEST – Embarking on a journey as the Secretary of the Planning Committee for the launching of a book titled “Working with Buhari: Reflections Of A Special Adviser Media and Publicity (2015-2023)”, written by my mentor and daddy, Chief Femi Adesina, was a truly enchanting odyssey.

The event prides itself as the first official visit of former President Muhammadu Buhari to Abuja since leaving office on May 29, 2023 and the guest list resonates with who is who of Nigerian politics.

President Bola Tinubu GCFR served as the Special Guest of Honour while former Nigerian ruler, General Yakubu Gowon, chaired the occasion.

The presence of former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon Abbas Tajudeen, Billionaire Philanthropist Alhaji Muhammadu Indimi (Chief Launcher) along with Ministers, Governors, and heads of parastatals added to the grandeur of the event.

Senior cabinet members of the Buhari administration were also in attendance.

The planning committee comprised seasoned media experts and professionals, led by Mallam Garba Deen Muhammad, former Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Limited.

The team boasted of media luminaries such as Azubuike Ishiekwene, Editor-in-Chief of Leadership Newspaper; Funke Egbemode, former president of the Nigerian Guild of Editors; Femi Babafemi, NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy; Shola Osunkeye, the book reviewer and CEO of Crest Online; Bayo Omoboriowo, the event planner and official photographer to former President Buhari, and Mariam Mohammed, Publisher of Maktoub Magazine.

I owe a debt of gratitude to Chief Femi Adesina for consistently providing me with opportunities to shine. His recognition of my efforts in front of the dignitaries at the Presidential event and unwavering support extends beyond professional realms, as he has attended all my campus journalism events, offering guidance, including schooling me whenever I falter.

In the coming days, I’ll be penning an opinion piece to share the nuances of my experience working with these fantastic individuals and delving into the major hurdles we faced in the buildup to the event.
