NEWS DIGEST: On Saturday, a fierce windstorm hit Dauda Mafala and Sons Poultry Farm at Rapomol in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau state, killing over 3,600 birds and destroying six chicken shades, poultry fences, and electricity poles.

The farm had a capacity of 60,000 birds and had been standing since 1976 when it was established by Mr. Kennth Mafala. It was reported that the heavy downpour contributing to the windstorm was the cause of the incident.

In response, the Spokesperson for the Poultry Association of Nigeria in Plateau, Mrs. Nanji Gambo, suggested that the incident was regrettable and that the loss caused to the poultry farmers in the state was enormous and required urgent attention from the government.

She called for the government to assist farmers, assuring them that it would enable the reactivation of their businesses and contribute to the economic growth of both the farmers and the state.
