We will beat Nigerians expectations- Mikel

NEWS DIGEST -Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel is confident Nigeria will surpass expectations in the tournament in Russia which kicks off on thursday.

Following poor performances in the friendly games ahead of the World Cup where they were defeated by Serbia, England and Czech Republic, many observers have tuned down expectations from the Super Eagles. Mikel however says he is satisfied with the low expectations placed on the team as it affords them the opportunity to prove critics wrong.
“We like where we’ve been placed. We don’t want to be one of the favourites,” Mikel told Al Jazeera in a video interview.
“I think this will give the team enough motivation to prove critics wrong that we can actually do better that they actually feel.” he further said.
With the widespread glamour surrounding Nigeria’s preparations for the tournament ranging from the jersey, the traditional attire, extravagant preparation base, timely settlement of necessary wages, several cheering songs, it is hoped that the team will not disappoint the country as they are intensely under the microscope more than ever before.
