Institutions Must Take Precedence over Individuals – Wike Speaks on FCT TSA Removal

NEWS DIGEST – Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has underscored the importance of giving top priority to the development of government institutions by government appointees.

He emphasized that these institutions will always exist, and any improvements made to them will endure.

In his explanation, Wike highlighted his decision to serve as a Minister under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, citing Tinubu’s capacity and political will to lead the nation effectively.

He identified leadership as a significant challenge facing Nigeria and commended Tinubu’s readiness to undertake actions that others might shy away from.

Wike revealed that upon assuming office, he discovered an unimplemented law that established a civil service commission for the FCT. He promptly brought this to Tinubu’s attention, leading to the President’s approval of its initiation. This initiative was initially assented to by former Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo in 2018 when he was acting as President.

He stressed that individuals, including the President and the Minister, are replaceable, highlighting the necessity for institutions to take precedence.

Wike advocated for the prompt implementation of laws once passed, asserting that it is the institution that upholds the will of the people as expressed through enacted legislation.
