The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Nigeria, has released the result of the inaugural Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (CB-WASSCE) for Private Candidates, 2024 – First Series, yesterday.

Transitioning from traditional paper-based tests to Computer-Based Examinations (CBE), the council initiated this shift for its private candidates’ assessments, according to a statement issued to PUNCH Online.

In this pioneering CB-WASSCE, a hybrid approach was adopted, with all questions displayed on computer screens. Multiple-choice responses were submitted directly onto the computer interface in real-time, while answers to essay and practical questions were recorded in booklets provided to candidates.

The statement disclosed that the examination took place from Wednesday, January 31, to Saturday, February 17, 2024.

Upon analysing candidates’ performances, it was revealed that out of the 8,139 examinees, 3,424 candidates – constituting 42.07 per cent – achieved credits or higher in at least five subjects, with or without English Language and/or Mathematics.
