Seven people have reportedly been killed by gunmen who assaulted two settlements in Plateau State.

According to reports, the victims passed away early on Thursday morning as a result of the attackers’ attacks in the Pukah and Pinper areas of the state’s Mangu Local Government Area.

It was discovered that the gunmen took sheep and other household animals in the Pinper hamlet while killing six men and a woman in the Pukah settlement.

The killings were confirmed by John Mark, a Pukah village resident, in Jos on Thursday.

Mark said, “The Pukah community in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State came under heavy attack by gunmen early this morning (Thursday). They also attacked another community in the council area known as Pinper.

“In Pukah community, they killed one lady and six men. But in Pinper, they carted away several numbers of sheep before they fled the communities ”

Mark who condemned the attack said the incident had been reported to security operatives.

Captain Oya James, the spokesperson for the Military Taskforce tasked with upholding peace in the state, promised to comment to our correspondent on the attack when he was reached, but as of the time this report was filed, he had not done so.

Just hours had passed since the state government trained 600 people for the state-owned security force known as Operation Rainbow when gunmen in the Mangu neighborhood killed the seven people.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang thanked President Bola Tinubu for supporting state-owned security units during their passing out parade in Jos on Wednesday.

He said that the revitalization of the unit came at a good time, as the state needed to consolidate its achievements in addressing security issues that had plagued the region for years.

He instructed the operatives to give their fair share to the efforts to protect residents’ lives and property and warned them that his administration would not tolerate indiscipline or unprofessional behavior.
