Former Super Eagles media officer Colin Udoh has revealed the true reasons behind Finidi George’s abrupt resignation as head coach of the Super Eagles, just a month after assuming the position.

The news of Finidi’s resignation became a hot topic on Saturday, following the Nigeria Football Federation’s (NFF) announcement of plans to appoint a foreign technical adviser for the team.

The NFF’s decision to bring in a foreign technical adviser came after the Super Eagles, under Finidi’s leadership, failed to secure victories in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and the Benin Republic.

In a video posted by Colin Udoh, Finidi had personally informed him about his decision to step down. According to Udoh, Finidi had a positive meeting with the NFF on Thursday, June 13, where they assured him of their support.

However, during that meeting, there was no mention of appointing a foreign technical adviser.

The NFF had actually made the decision to hire a foreign technical adviser during a board meeting on Wednesday, June 12. However, Finidi only learned about this decision after he landed in Port Harcourt, when someone informed him.

Feeling that the NFF no longer wanted him, Finidi decided to resign after waiting two days without any contact from the NFF.

Finidi was appointed as the Super Eagles coach in May, having previously served as Jose Peseiro’s assistant for 20 months. However, his tenure was short-lived, with the team suffering a 2-1 defeat to the Benin Republic and managing only a 1-1 draw against South Africa.
