In the early hours of Monday, a tragic collision between a passenger bus and a truck on the Sagamu-Benin Expressway claimed two lives.

The incident, which occurred around 6:30 AM, also left four people injured, while 14 others escaped unharmed.

The spokesperson for the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, reported that the accident involved an unregistered Howo truck and a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number BEN 823 ZW.

According to Akinbiyi, the crash was caused by excessive speed on the part of the bus driver, resulting in a loss of control and subsequent collision with the truck.

A total of 20 individuals were involved in the accident, including 15 males and five females. “The accident took place at Area Command Hill, inbound Ijebu Ode, on the Sagamu-Benin Expressway.

Eyewitnesses confirmed that the bus driver was speeding, which led to the loss of control and the crash,” Akinbiyi stated.

The remains of the deceased were transported to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) morgue, while the injured were also taken to OOUTH for treatment.

“The accident victims have been rescued and taken to OOUTH, with the bodies of the two deceased deposited at the hospital’s morgue,” Akinbiyi confirmed.
