NEWS DIGEST- In front of the gate of the main campus of the Federal University of Technology Minna, Gidan Kwano, a truck driver has crushed a 200 Level student of Electrical Engineering, Abdulazeez Gimba to death.

The incident involved a truck that was trying to overtake another vehicle when it lost control and collided with three students who were on a motorcycle. The students were on their way to the school campus when the accident occurred.

Gimba died on the spot while the two others sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at Minna General Hospital.

Students protest, demanding school management must build speed bumps on the road

The incident has triggered a protest by the students who are demanding that the school authority puts speed bumps on the road to prevent such accidents in the future. 

Niger state Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kumar Tsukwam, confirmed that the accident was caused by overspeeding and wrongful overtaking.

The truck and the motorcycle are currently in police custody, while the body of the deceased has been deposited at the mortuary.
