An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday remanded a 56-year-old trader, Ahmed Adeyemi, in Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly defiling an eight-year-old girl.

The police charged Adeyemi, who resides in the Surulere area of Lagos, with defilement. Chief Magistrate Bola Osunsanmi did not take his plea for want of jurisdiction.

She adjourned the case until April 24 for legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution.

Earlier, the prosecutor, ASP Raji Akeem, informed the court that the offence was committed in December 2023 at Adeyemi’s residence. Akeem stated that Adeyemi lives on the same street as the victim’s parents.

The prosecutor alleged that the suspect lured the girl into his house, defiled her, and gave her N100, warning her not to tell anyone. The offence, the prosecutor highlighted, contravened the provisions of Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
