President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima will now be required to pay tollgate fees when utilizing airports in Nigeria, as the Federal Executive Council (FEC) has decided to eliminate exemptions for airport users.

This decision came after Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo presented a memorandum to the council, highlighting the substantial revenue loss—estimated at over 82%—resulting from the non-payment of tollgate fees by users with e-tags.

Initially, the memoranda proposed exemptions only for the president and vice president, but Tinubu overruled this and directed that both of them should be included among those required to pay.

Dpeaking at the post-FEC media briefing, Keyamo expressed regret that wealthy Very Important Persons (VIPs) who should have been paying tollgate fees have been exempted, while only lower-income individuals have been charged.

He further emphasized the need to rectify this situation.
