President Bola Tinubu will on Monday open the African Counter-terrorism Summit in Abuja, the Presidency has disclosed.

This was said in a statement made on Sunday, April 21, by Ajuri Ngelale, the president’s special adviser on publicity and the media.

From April 22 to 23, Nigeria and the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) will collaborate to organize the high-level summit.

The theme of the summit is “Strengthening Regional Cooperation and Institution Building to Address the Evolving Threat of Terrorism.”

With an emphasis on African-led and African-owned solutions, the goal is to strengthen multilateral counterterrorism cooperation and reshape the international community’s collective response to terrorism in Africa.

In order to assess the threat of terrorism on the continent and decide on strategic priorities and countermeasures, heads of state and government, senior government officials, representatives of international organizations, and members of civil society will gather for the summit.

In order to combat terrorism in Africa, the event will also promote stronger regional collaboration, strengthen institutional capacity, and ease the exchange of best practices and knowledge.

Notable attendees include Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Advisor (NSA), UN Deputy Secretary-General Ms. Amina Mohammed, and Mr. Vladimir Voronkov, the Under-Secretary-General of UNOCT, who will make closing remarks at the summit.

The summit seeks to give African nations a forum to collaborate and confront the changing threat posed by terrorism, advancing stability and peace throughout the continent.
