President Bola Tinubu joined Muslim faithfuls to at the Dodan Barracks in Ikoyi, Lagos on Wednesday to observe the Eid el-Fitr prayers.

The President and other senior government officials arrived at the Eid prayer site at 10.02 a.m.

President Tinubu addressed the assembled Muslim faithfuls on the significance of the celebration, pleading with them to show tolerance and compassion to one another going forward.

“We should sustain good behaviour, though Ramadan is over; We have no business fighting one another; We should have religious harmony,” he said.

“The empathy and love that we showed during Ramadan must continue; Ramadan has gone, but good behaviour is not gone.

“Let us give to the needy. Always show charity. May Almighty Allah guide us and protect Nigeria.”

Prior to the President’s address, the Grand Chief Imam of Lagos, Sheik Sulaiman Abou Nolla, had educated the congregation during the prayer session on the spiritual and medical benefits of fasting.

The Imam declared that the month of Ramadan was the month of grace, mercies, forgiveness, and acceptance of prayers, pointing out that fasting is one of the five pillars of Islam.

The preacher urged Nigerians to stick together, emphasizing that unity in diversity and cohesion remained essential to the country’s progress.

The cleric called on all levels of government to support the populace, but he also urged the populace to maintain order, obey the law, and promote harmony and peace among various communities.

He asked God to lead and shield Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his lieutenants as they make decisions that will benefit the people.

Among the dignitaries present at the prayer ground were Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, Minister of Blue Economy, and Mr. Babatunde Fashola, a former minister of Works and Housing.

The Lagos Council of Traditional White Cap Chiefs, Hakeem Muri-Okunola, Tinubu’s private secretary, and Olanode Agoro, Lagos Head of Service, are a few more.
