Nigeria’s Female National Basketball Team, D’Tigress, has secured their spot in the basketball event of the Paris 2024 Olympics. The journey to this historic moment happened at the ongoing International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Olympic Qualifying Games in Belgium.

D’Tigress showcased their prowess on the court by triumphing over Senegal with a score of 72-65 in their opening game. Meanwhile, Senegal suffered a setback, losing to Belgium with a significant margin of 66-92. Despite Nigeria’s earlier defeat against the formidable FIBA 2022 World Champions, the U.S.A, with a score of 109-44, their initial victory against Senegal ensured their qualification for Paris.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that Belgium’s victory over Senegal guaranteed the U.S.A’s qualification as the reigning world champions. Nigeria and Belgium also secured their spots in Paris, even with one game left to play.

Under the guidance of coach Rena Wakama, D’Tigress received an outpouring of congratulatory messages from the basketball community. Queen John-Moseph, a fervent basketball enthusiast, lauded the team’s determination and historic achievement. She commended their hard work and resilience, emphasizing that they rightfully earned their place in Paris.

As anticipation builds, Nigeria is set to face Belgium in their final qualifying match, while the U.S.A will take on Senegal to conclude the Olympic qualifiers for their group. The stage is set for D’Tigress to continue making waves on the international basketball scene as they prepare to compete on the grandest stage of all: the Paris 2024 Olympics.

“Congratulations to the Nigerian team, this was a hard fought competition and with one game in hand they are in Paris already,” she said.
