The Confluence State University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Kogi State, has declared a three-day mourning period following the tragic killing of two of its students by bandits on Saturday. The announcement was made by the school’s Registrar, Olufunke Hudson, in a statement released on Sunday.

In the statement, Hudson expressed the profound sadness felt by the university’s management over the loss of the students who were abducted on Thursday, May 9, and subsequently killed on May 25, 2024.

“All activities at the university will be conducted in a low-key manner from Monday, May 27, to Wednesday, May 29, 2024, as a mark of respect and remembrance for the departed students,” the statement read.

The Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Bertrand Onuoha, had earlier confirmed the tragic incident.

The statement further conveyed the university management’s condolences to the parents, families, and colleagues of the deceased students. It reassured them that the Kogi State Government, under the leadership of the Visitor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, is diligently working to secure the safe release of the remaining students held in captivity.

“We urge everyone to remain calm and maintain peace during this difficult time. The efforts to ensure the safe return of the remaining students are being intensified,” the statement emphasized.

In conclusion, the statement offered prayers for the eternal repose of the departed students, seeking solace in the hope that they find eternal rest in the hands of the Almighty.
