Alejandro Garnacho has been in contact with Manchester United following his liking of social media posts that criticized manager Erik Ten Hag for how he was handling the player.

The Argentina international, who was substituted off the field at halftime during their Saturday 2-2 draw with Bournemouth, liked two posts posted on X by Mark Goldbridge, a YouTuber and United supporter.

Ten Hag was accused in one post of “throwing (Garnacho) under the bus” in reference to the United manager’s remarks regarding the 19-year-old’s play.

The other said Garnacho “had a poor first half but taking him off at halftime and holding him up as the problem is a joke”.

Garnacho quickly “unliked” both messages, which the team feels is a sign of remorse. A United source informed the PA news agency that the issue had been resolved internally.

With nine goals and four assists in 42 games this season, the teenager has emerged as one of United’s most important players.

The incident comes after one in September when Ten Hag claimed that Jadon Sancho had trained poorly and he had been left out of the squad for the Arsenal game. Sancho claimed on X that he had been made a “scapegoat” in response.

Declaring that he would “not allow people saying things that (are) completely untrue,” Sancho is understood to be accusing Ten Hag of fabricating justifications for his non-participation.

In January, the 24-year-old was loaned to Borussia Dortmund after being expelled from the first team.

After United’s draw with Bournemouth, which dropped them to seventh in the Premier League standings and 13 points outside of the top four, Ten Hag’s status has come under increased scrutiny.

United’s only trophy this season is the FA Cup; they play Coventry, a second-tier team, in the semi-final on Sunday at Wembley.
