Super Eagles Resume Training After Resolving Bonus Dispute Ahead of World Cup Playoffs

The Super Eagles have returned to training in Rabat, Morocco, ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup African playoffs semi-final against Gabon after settling issues over match bonuses with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Team media officer Promise Efoghe confirmed the development, announcing that the squad would train at 5 pm. The team had boycotted their second training session on Tuesday to protest unpaid entitlements.

Initially, only 14 of the 16 players present attended Monday’s full recovery session, with Sevilla duo Akor Adams and Chidera Ejuke sitting out. The Tuesday boycott was made public hours before the planned session. In a joint statement, the players said they were awaiting a quick resolution to continue preparations for the crucial match.

Negotiations between the players, NFF, and the National Sports Commission eventually led to a compromise, though details of the agreement were not publicly disclosed. NFF President Ibrahim Gusau clarified that any outstanding payments relate only to the current qualifiers, not previous matches. He explained that agreements on match bonuses were reached with team leaders after last year’s AFCON, and appearance fees are being handled through the National Sports Commission.

Nigeria is scheduled to face Gabon at the Complexe Sportif Prince Heritier Moulay Al Hassan in Rabat at 5 pm on Thursday.
