Fear gripped St. James Primary School B in Osogbo as 18 pupils were hospitalized on Monday due to suspected food poisoning. Parents allege contamination in meals provided under the O’Meal free feeding program, leading to stomach upset and vomiting. Affected children, served rice with egg, exhibited symptoms upon returning home. Video footage captured their hospitalization, with some receiving drips.

A mother claimed the victims emitted a rotten egg odor. Another parent revealed their child vomited blood, demanding a government probe into O’Meal vendors. Osun State government, prompted by the reported cases, initiated a thorough investigation. Governor Ademola Adeleke ordered an immediate halt to food preparation at the affected school pending the inquiry.

Commissioner Kolapo Alimi stated the governor’s directive, informed by Special Adviser Grace Oluwaseyi Ayodele. Meanwhile, Special Adviser Akindele Adekunle, visiting victims at Osun State University Teaching Hospital, reassured that most were stable. Medical experts dismissed rumors of a cholera outbreak, emphasizing a comprehensive examination before potential discharge.
