SSS denies arresting Dadiyata

NEWS DIGEST – The State Security Service, SSS, has denied reports suggesting that the service operatives have whisked away pro-PDP social media activist, Abubakar Idris, popularly known as Dadiyata.

Mr Dadiyata was bundled away in his car from his Kaduna home in the past midnight Friday by armed men.

Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, the spokesperson to the 2019 PDP governorship candidate for Kano State, Abba Yusuf, had in a statement on Friday said Mr Dadiyata was arrested by the SSS.

“Report reaching us has confirmed that heavily armed security personnel believed to be operatives of the DSS have arrested Abubakar Idris, popularly known as Abu Hanifa Dadiyata in his Kaduna residence last night.

“Dadiyata is the leading social media activist in Twitter community that protects and projects Kwankwasiyya ideology and the PDP in northern Nigeria.

“Married with children, a University Lecturer, Abubakar Dadiyata is currently a student of Ph.D in Strategic Communication at a Malaysian University.

“We want to use this medium to call on security agencies to as a matter of responsibility release Abubakar Dadiyata unhurt and without any condition,” the statement added.

But spokesman for the SSS, Peter Afunnaya and the Kaduna State Director of SSS, Ahmed Koya, denied the arrest of Mr Dadiyata by the service operatives.

“We don’t have anybody named Abubakar Idris Dadiyata in our custody. We did not arrest him. Nothing like that occured on that night,” they told Daily Nigerian newspaper in a conference call.

Police spokesman in Kaduna, Yakubu Sabo, said police are still investigating the matter and making efforts to establish his whereabouts.

“Immediately after we received a distress call on the abduction, the DPO in charge of the area rushed to the scene. We are still investigating the matter,” Mr Sabo, a deputy superintendent of police, said.
