Sowore suffers police arrest yet again
NEWS DIGEST – Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore, has been arrested by the Nigerian Police Force for his role in a crossover protest organized in the nation’s capital.
Eyewitness told Sahara Reporters that some policemen, believed to be with the Rapid Response Squad, stormed Gudu junction in Abuja, where the procession was being held, wounded Sowore before hauling him away.
Sowore was arrested with some other protesters who had gathered at the procession. Protesters who escaped arrest told Premium Times that the human rights activist was hauled away in one of seven vans driven to the venue by the police.

Sowore had charged Nigerians, through his twitter account, to come out on New year’s eve, “pick up a candle and a placard” expressing their grievances towards the government.
Sowore’s charge spurred reactions in Kaduna, Ondo and Abuja. In many videos of the procession on Social media, protesters danced around the candles and raised placards challenging insecurity, bad governance and electricity in the country.
“#2020 We will resist any form of bad governance and oppressions with a protest #RevolutionNow,” one placard read.
Sowore’s recent arrest will be his second in 17 months. The 2019 presidential candidate was arrested on 3 August, 2019 by the DSS over planning a nationwide #RevolutionNow protest. The government would later charge him with treason, citing a conspiracy to overthrow Buhari’s government.
