The Coalition of South-East Youth Leaders (COSEYL) has urged governors in the region to avoid discrimination in the distribution of post-subsidy removal palliatives to the poor and vulnerable.
The group’s president-general, Goodluck Ibem, who made the call in a statement on Tuesday, also urged the governors to ensure timely distribution of the palliatives.

“We are saying that the governors should ensure that the palliatives get to the right people and not to their political loyalists. It is unfair to delay the distribution process, give the palliative to the people when they need it, and when it will be of benefit to them,” said Mr Ibem.
Mr Ibem urged the region’s governors to devise reliable means of identifying the poor and vulnerable people in their respective states. He noted that the funds expended on the palliatives would be wasted if the items did not reach the right people.
“We don’t want to hear the stories of the COVID-19 era where palliatives were hoarded and not given to the right people,” Mr Ibem stressed.
He urged the public to monitor the distribution process and confront the system if the right things are not done.
