Soldiers on Thursday reportedly fired shots as suspected hoodlums seized trailers loaded with essential food items in Suleja Local Government of Niger State.

Daily Trust reported that an eyewitness, Alhassan Abdullahi recounted the chaotic scene where numerous trailers traveling from Abuja to Kaduna were obstructed by hoodlums who set fire to tires on the road.

Before the military arrived, a significant amount of assorted foodstuff, particularly rice, was looted.

Abdullahi described how the soldiers intervened by firing shots into the air to disperse the hoodlums. Despite their efforts, many perpetrators managed to escape with bags of rice, cartons of spaghetti, and other food items. Additionally, there were reports of planned protests by commercial motorcycle riders, adding to the unrest.

This incident unfolds against the backdrop of widespread hardship across the nation, fueling protests in various regions.
