The Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, has given his approval for a 100 percent increase in the allowance allocated to members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) deployed to the State.

The announcement was made during the joint orientation exercise for Sokoto and Zamfara states at the NYSC temporary orientation camp, Farfaru, Sokoto yesterday.

Governor Aliyu revealed that the allowance for corps members serving in Sokoto State has been doubled from N5,000 to N10,000 for their mandatory one-year service. This decision, he explained, was influenced by the current economic situation and the crucial role of the NYSC scheme in national and state development.

During the swearing-in ceremony of Batch ‘A’ stream 1 corps members, Governor Aliyu also announced a personal donation of N10,000 to each corps member as a welcoming gesture. He urged the corps members to uphold good behavior and foster unity, emphasizing the importance of treating all citizens as fellow Nigerians regardless of ethnic or religious differences.

Furthermore, Governor Aliyu assured continuous support from his administration towards achieving the objectives of the NYSC scheme. He emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring the security and welfare of corps members, recognizing the necessity of a conducive environment for effective service delivery.

Muhammad Bello, the Chairperson of the NYSC Governing Board and Percentmanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youths, Sport, and Social Development, emphasized the importance of discipline among corps members. He stressed the regimental nature of camp activities and encouraged corps members to adapt to the demands of daily routines.

Mr. Usman Yaro, the State Coordinator of the NYSC, expressed gratitude for the governor’s support and acknowledged the contributions of various stakeholders, including the Nigerian Army, police, civil defense, and other paramilitary agencies, towards the success of the orientation exercise.

The event culminated in the administration of national and NYSC oaths by the state Chief Judge, Justice Muhammad Saidu Sifawa, represented by Justice Ibrahim Tambuwal, underscoring the commitment of the state judiciary to uphold the principles of the NYSC program.
