Senator Ireti Heeba Kingibe, representing the FCT, urges Nigerians to combat Gender-Based Violence, emphasizing the need to halt this disturbing trend.

As the Senate Committee chairperson on Women Affairs, she delivered this message during a solidarity ‘Walkathon’ in Abuja on Saturday, aligning with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

Kingibe remains hopeful that gender bills facing challenges from the 9th National Assembly will find a different fate in the 10th Assembly.

She believes that legislators in the 10th Assembly stand united in condemning all forms of violence, especially Gender-Based Violence, emphasizing the pivotal role of women as the backbone of the nation. Kingibe questions the survival of a country with a broken backbone.

She said, “Without exaggeration, women are the backbone of this country. We are the backbone of any country. We are the backbone of the home. Can we survive with a broken backbone?”
