Senator Jibrin Barau of Kano North senatorial district has been elected Deputy Senate President of the 10th Assembly.
Sen Barau was nominated for the position by former Ebonyi State Governor David Umahi. Saliu Mustapha, a legislator from Kwara Central, also endorsed his nomination.
Sen. Barau ran unopposed, in stark contrast to the Senate Presidency, when floor members chose not to submit counter nominations.
As a result, the Clerk of the National Assembly, Sani Tambuwal, confirmed Barau as Deputy Speaker.
Sen. Barau’s victory means he will work with newly elected Senate President Godswill Akpabio in the legislative arm, where he will play critical legislative obligations.
