A former lawmaker and human rights activist, Shehu Sani, has advised Nigerians to focus on the upcoming election rather than protesting the naira and fuel scarcity in the country.

The senator, who represented Kaduna Central senatorial district in the 8th National Assembly, made this known via his official Twitter page on Wednesday.

Sani tweeted, “The general public must avoid any form of protest in d name of cash or fuel scarcity at this 11th hour. The people in d southeast must defy any call to sit at home. Any spark is intended to lead to conflagration. Anti-democratic elements must be resisted. Let’s focus on d election.”

The former lawmaker earlier tweeted that poverty will be a determining factor in the upcoming general elections.

“With the level of poverty in the country, forget about credible elections if the stashed old notes are allowed to be shared on or before the 25th of February.

“The dangers of using toxic religious sentiments in order to get voters is like using a snake to hunt for a Rabbit.”
