Egyptian football star Mohamed Salah faces a substantial absence from the African Cup of Nations (AFCON), with his agent Ramy Abbas revealing the setback.

The Liverpool ace sustained a hamstring injury during Egypt’s 2-2 draw with Ghana, forcing him to leave the national team squad in Ivory Coast for recovery in Liverpool. The severity of the injury, disclosed by Abbas and quoted by Fabrizio Romano, indicates Salah’s unavailability for 21-28 days.

In hopes of participating in the current AFCON, Salah opts for intensive rehabilitation in the UK, aiming to rejoin the team once fit.

Despite his absence, Egypt pursues success, recalling their last Cup of Nations title in 2010, and Salah remains optimistic about future AFCON victories.

His late penalty against Mozambique saved Egypt from an opening defeat, highlighting his crucial role in the tournament.

“The injury is more serious than first thought. He will be out for 21-28 days.

“His best chance at participating in the current AFCON is by undergoing intensive rehabilitation in the UK and rejoining the team as soon as he is fit.”

Salah is convinced he will win the Afcon “sooner or later,” Fabrizio Romano quoted Abbas as saying.
