Disregard calls for service chiefs’ sack, JIBWIS tells Buhari

NEWS DIGEST – The Jama’atul Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Ikamatissunah, JIBWIS, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to disregard calls by some Nigerians for the sack of the security service chiefs over their alleged inability to secure the country.

The JIBWIS national Chairman Council of Ulama, Sheikh Sani Yahaya-Jingir, made the call in Jos during a chat with newsmen at the group’s 2020 national lecture, themed: “Promoting peace and security in Jos and Northern Nigeria”.

According to the cleric, patents, community leaders, clerics and politicians should be blamed for the “rising insecurity” in the country.

Mr Yahaya-Jingir further stated that if service chiefs are changed, some governors should also be changed, stressing that they too are the chief security officers of their respective states.

While stressing that security issue is everybody’s business, Mr Yahaya-Jingir noted that it was wrong to shun individual faults and point accusing fingers at others.

Mr Yahaya-Jingir further stressed that if a father cannot train and discipline his children, if community leaders, traditional rulers, politicians cannot lead with the fear of Allah at heart, “there is the tendency of breaking out of security challenges.”

He said: “When insecurity breaks out from a home, it can escalate to consume the communities and a country at large.”

The cleric, therefore, advised the government to improve the welfare packages of security operatives, and also equip them with adequate modern weapons.
