Sa’a Ibrahim elected new BON chairman

NEWS DIGEST – The Director-General of the Kano-based ARtv, Sa’a Ibrahim has been declared as the new National Chairman-elect of the Broadcasting Organization of Nigeria, BON.

Mrs Ibrahim polled 56 votes to topple other contenders in the just concluded Bon’s 72nd Annual General meeting held on Wednesday in Lagos State.

Prior to her new portfolio, Mrs Ibrahim served as the immediate past Vice-President of the BON.

Accepting the mandate, the Chairman-elect promised to uphold the Constitution of the organization, work to add to the trust confided in her as well as engage members of the organization towards achieving efficiency.

Mrs Ibrahim is the first woman to be elected as Chairman of the BON since August 11, 1988.

PROFILE

Sa’a Ibrahim was born on the 18th of April, 1960 to the family of Malam Ibrahim and Yalwa Bello, in Magashi Quarters, Gwale Local Government Area in Kano State.

The newly elected National chairman of the BON, began her early education in Kano state as she attended Kofar Kudu Primary School, Kano from 1966 to 1973 before proceeding to Government Secondary School, Dala, Kano State from 1973 to 1978 for her secondary education.

She also attended College of Arts, Science and Remedial Studies, Kano from 1978 to 1980 before proceeding to obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Political science from University of Sokoto between 1980 to 1984.

She further obtained an advanced Diploma in radio production at the University of Jos, Kano, Nigeria between 1988 to 1989.

Mrs Ibrahim holds a Masters’ degree in Public Relations from Bayero University, Kano which she obtained between 2014 to 2015.

During the course of her early service year, Mrs Ibrahim has been opportune to serve in different capacity. These includes: Radio Kano Producer 11 from 1984 to  1985; Unit Held (Women & Children) from 1985 to 1986;  she also worked with Radio Deusche-Welle for two years before proceeding to become the Producer of the  Women program between 1986 to 1988; she was also a News presenter at Deusche-Welle from  1991 to 1993;  Unit Head (FM) from 1988 to 1993;  Unit Head (Women & Children CTV 67) from 1993 to 1996; Manager Programmes (CTV 67) in 1999; Manager Programmes (FM Kano) between 1999 to  2005; Deputy Director (FM Kano) from 2005 to 2008; Director (FM Kano) between 2008 to  2014 And the Managing Director/CEO (ARTV Kano) from 2014 – till date.

The BON National Chairman-elect has also served  as a Member of the State Advisory Panel for the DFID funded State Accountability and Voice Initiative – SAVI Support and nurture linkages between the Media, CSO’s and the State House of Assembly in  0ctober 2009.

She also served as the Media focal lead for Kano State Social Mobilization Committee, where she provided Technical assistance and support in the Planning, Review, monitoring and documentation of Polio Eradication and other Public Health Communication Activities in Kano State in July 2002.

She was also a member of the Social Mobilization technical committee in charge of ten states under UNICEF Bauchi from 1998 to 2002.

Mrs Ibrahim is a member of the BON, Radio, Television, Theatre and Art Workers Union of Nigeria, RATTAWU, Nigeria Association of Women, NAWOJ, and Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ.
