Rwanda’s head coach, Thorsten Frannk Splitter, is turning to Gernot Rohr for crucial insights as his team prepares to face the Super Eagles in their 2026 World Cup CAF Qualifying Group C match on March 17, 2025, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.

Despite four rounds of matches, Rwanda sits surprisingly atop the group with seven points, tied with South Africa in second place but trailing due to goal difference. This unexpected position has emboldened the East Africans, who now see a real chance at a maiden World Cup qualification by defeating Nigeria.

Rohr, who guided Benin to a historic 2-1 victory over Nigeria in June, is seen by Splitter as the ideal source for advice on how to defeat the Nigerian team. The Franco-German coach, who led Nigeria for nearly six years before taking the reins at Benin, is expected to provide valuable insights.

“I am very sure we (Rohr and I) will have a phone call before the match; it may be two or three calls, and if he can tell me something, I will be stupid not to take it,” Splitter told Brila FM. “For that, we will try to be in contact; if possible, we can help each other; for sure, we will do it.”

Rohr’s triumph with Benin, where he was carried shoulder-high by players after the historic win in Abidjan, adds to the belief that he can provide valuable insights to Splitter. Nigeria, on the other hand, sits in fifth place in the group with just three points from four matches.

They will aim to revive their qualification hopes when they face Zimbabwe on March 24 after the Rwanda clash.

Nigeria will have a new coach for these matches following the resignation of Finidi George, who stepped down shortly after the Nigeria Football Federation announced plans to hire an expatriate technical adviser to oversee him.
