Rufus Giwa Poly increase tuition fees

NEWS DIGEST – The management of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, has increased tuition of fresh National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) who usually pay between N45, 000 and 63,000 to N98,500 and N108,500 respectively.

The increment is coming two weeks after the Ondo state government had ordered the students to resume back to school in addition to N12,000 reparation fee.

While the governing council of the institution denied the increment, the polytechnic official site showed increment in the payment invoice.

The Chairman of RUGIPO governing council, Banji Alabi, in a statement said the institution only have mere prospective students until they pay their acceptance fees

“Some people are talking out of ignorance. We don’t have fresh students yet. What we have are mere prospective and until they pay our acceptance fees, register as students and matriculate, they are not our students”.

However, Babatunde Jonathan, ND 1 student of Faculty of Applied Science said he paid N98,500 while HND 1 student of same Faculty, Teslim Opeloyeru claimed to have paid N108,500. The same applied to students in Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Social Sciences and Communication Studies.

We gathered that ND 1 students of Faculty of Business Studies have been billed to pay N93,500 while the HND 1 students will pay N101,000.

Reacting to the fee hike, the students union president, Temitayo Ayejuyo promised that all efforts would be put in place to restore normalcy in the institution’s tuition fees.

Sekoni Azeez, ND 1 student said: “I logged on to the university portal to find N103,000 as tuition fees. This is inhumane and also a stylish way of telling the poor that education is not meant for them”.
