Rivers State University, Nkpolu-Orowurukwu, Port Harcourt, has announced that it has received full accreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC) for all 18 academic programs submitted for evaluation.

This announcement was made by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nlerum Okogbule, during a press briefing in his office on Monday.

Prof. Okogbule revealed that the accreditation followed the NUC’s assessment conducted in October/November 2023.

This marks the second time the university has achieved a 100% success rate in accreditation exercises, having accomplished a similar feat last year.

“It is my pleasure to inform you and the general public that Rivers State University scored 100 percent in the October/November 2023 Accreditation Exercise conducted by the National Universities Commission.

The university obtained full accreditation status for all 18 academic programs presented for the exercise.

This is a rare and unprecedented feat in the history of the university,” Prof. Okogbule stated.

He assured that the university has the necessary facilities to support the newly accredited programs.

“The accreditation exercise looked at not only the academic programs, content, and staff but also the physical facilities.

They evaluated our classrooms, staff offices, laboratories, and other infrastructure.

We have met and satisfied the requirements for these programs, but we can always improve and add to what is available,” he explained.

Prof. Okogbule also emphasized the university’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of its students across all campuses.

He expressed gratitude to Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the university’s governing council, led by Mary Peter-Odili, for their robust support.

“This commendable achievement could not have been possible without the support of the Governor of Rivers State and visitor to the University, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, and the University’s governing council.

We pledge to continue our best efforts to sustain this level of achievement,” he said.

The accredited programs include Crop/Soil Science, Animal Science, Agricultural Economics, Fisheries, Forestry and Wildlife, Nursing, Adult and Community Education, Agricultural Education, Business Education, Education Biology, Education Chemistry, Education Mathematics, Education Physics, Technical Education, Chemical and Petroleum Engineering, Computer Engineering, Marine Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Chemistry, and Physics.
