The First Lady of Rivers State, Valerie Siminalayi Fubara, has provided substantial support to the state’s poor, vulnerable, and physically challenged residents by distributing 2,400 bags of rice and cash across the 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs). This initiative took place at Government House in Port Harcourt on Tuesday and forms part of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Food Security Programme (FSP), championed by the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

During the event, Lady Fubara emphasized that the RHI, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, aims to alleviate the economic hardships faced by many Nigerians and rekindle hope among them. She expressed gratitude to Senator Tinubu for her generosity, stating, “The reason we are gathered here is because our mother, the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, presented to every state of the federation a gift of 25kg bags of rice. For Rivers State, we received a total of 2,400 bags of 25kg rice. So, we say a big thank you to our mother.”

In addition to the rice, the Rivers State Government supplemented the donations with cash. Each LGA received 90 bags of rice, which were to be distributed to the most in need. Lady Fubara urged the recipients to ensure that the aid reached the vulnerable, physically challenged, and less-privileged individuals, cautioning against using the donations for personal gains or favors.

The Rivers State President of the National Council for Women Society (NCWS), Mrs. Jetiba Soberekon, expressed her appreciation, noting that the scheme’s inclusion of women was significant. She assured that the received donations would be appropriately distributed to the less-privileged.

Representatives from various LGAs, including Juliet Berewari from Ahoada East and Mrs. Princess Sokariba Youdowei from Ahoada West, conveyed their gratitude, highlighting the impact these donations would have on the lives of vulnerable people in rural areas. They praised the thoughtfulness of Senator Tinubu and Lady Fubara for their support during these challenging times.

Additionally, the bags of rice and cash gifts were distributed to the Motherless Babies’ Home in Borokiri, Cheshire Home in Port Harcourt Township, and Home for the Elderly on Harbour Road, all in Port Harcourt.
