The House of Representatives has decided to launch an inquiry into the prolonged issue of promotion stagnation within the Federal Civil Service spanning from 2013 to 2023.

The decision follows a motion presented by Rep. Salman Idris, Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Agric Colleges and Institutions in Abuja.

Idris emphasized that promotions are crucial for advancing civil servants and boosting their productivity.

He expressed concern over the persistent delays in promotions across various government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, which have led to decreased service delivery, skill erosion, and low morale among employees.

Stressing the importance of timely promotions, Idris called for comprehensive reforms to align with global standards.

He highlighted instances where civil servants, despite passing mandatory examinations, were promoted only nominally without financial benefits, a practice typically budgeted for annually by MDAs.

The House has mandated the Committee on Public Sector and Institutional Reforms to investigate the matter thoroughly.
