The late Afrobeat musician Joseph Aloba, father of the well-known Mohbad, Ilerioluwa Promise Aloba, has revealed why he dresses like his son.

In a recent interview, Joseph called his late son a “friend with whom he shared things in common” with blogger Kachiwire.

On September 12, 2023, Mohbad passed away. The following day, he was buried.

Azeez Fashola, also known as Naira Marley, the owner of Marlian Records, his previous record label, and a few other people, including Sam Larry, were accused of being involved in his demise.

However, the head of Marlian Records cleared himself of any misconduct. Sam Larry denied any involvement as well.

Both were taken into custody, charged, and later freed on bond; the primary suspect was found to be the nurse who administered Mohbad’s injections.

In response to the uproar, Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), ordered a forensic examination to determine the cause of death.

The Lagos State Police Command assembled a 10-person team, including a pathologist, to exhume Mohbad’s body and look into his death per the IGP’s directive.

The most important part of an autopsy to ascertain the cause of the deceased singer’s death is being carried out in the United States, according to a November 2023 statement from the Lagos Coroner Court located in Ita-Elewa, Ikorodu.

The autopsy on the deceased’s external body had concluded, according to state attorney O. Akinde, who informed Coroner Magistrate Adetayo Shotobi.

“The toxicology test, which has to do with the internal body, is being done in the US,” he added.

There have been several calls for the release of the autopsy report since the investigation began.

Speaking during the now viral interview, Aloba said he wears his son’s clothes because “we are the same size”.

He said: “He is my son. I can wear his clothes. We are the same size. And anybody that has that kind of a son and cannot share with, that means that person does not love his son. So we are together.

“I could remember the day they wanted to go and do the introduction that led to his engagement. He bought me shoes and he said ‘Daddy this is what you are going to wear’ I said these shoes were bigger than mine and that I did not want this kind of bourgeois, he said ‘this is exactly what I want you to do’.

“So, he wanted to blend in with me. He is my son and a friend to me. So my focus now is justice for Mohbad. So all those rubbish questions, I do not want to answer questions like that. He is my son. People can say whatever they like.”
