Real Madrid Crowned European Champions

NEWS DIGEST – Liverpool shot-stopper Loris Karius stole the headlines for the wrong reasons as he committed a series of unforgivable blunders to gift Real Madrid a 3-1 win over Liverpool.

The Reds kickstarted the contest on gear five, according no respect whatsoever to the reigning European champions as they went toe to toe, eyeball to eyeball, chest to chest with the Galacticos.

Mohamed Salah was left in tears in the 29th minute after his involvement was effectively terminated by a tough Ramos tackle. The agony was also felt by the Scousers in the stands as Lallana was summoned to replace the Egyptian record breaker.

Dani Cavajal joined Salah in the casualty room in the 34th minute after he twisted his ankle and has to be replaced by Nacho.

Karim Benzema found the back of the net in the 42nd minute but his celebration was cut short after being flagged offside by the linesman. A toxic first half ended with parity preserved.

The second half started with Madrid on the front foot with Isco slicing a half volley against the croas bar in the 47th minute after some poor Liverpool defending.

Madrid’s breakthrough arrived in the 50th minute after goalkeeper Loris Karius completely lost sanity by gifting Benzema the ball to poke home in one of the worst blunders ever witnessed in the competition’s 63-year history. However Liverpool were not willing to surrender the tie. Parity was restored three minutes later after Sadio Mane guided Lovren’s header from a corner with a full stretch to send the Reds’ supporters into Raptures.

Gareth Bale was brought in on the hour mark to replace Isco and it took him just four minutes to restore Madrid’s lead as he unleashed an astonishing overhead kick past a helpless Karius after Marcelo found the Welshman with an inch-perfect cross.

Klopp’s men kept knocking on Madrid’s door, desperately in search of the goal that would restore parity again as Mane struck the side bar with a 69th minute effort.

Karius added to his collection of blunders in the 83rd minute as he committed a school-boy error to gift Bale a second goal for the night and place the scoreline at 3-1. There was no way back for Liverpool.

The win cements Real Madrid’s enviable status as the greatest club in Europe after claiming a historic 13th European title.
