Former Scotland midfielder, Alan Hutton, has advised Glasgow Rangers to sign a more reliable striker in the January transfer window.

The Gers signed Dessers from Italian side Cremonese for $4.5m in the summer but the Nigerian has struggled to make an impact since landing at the Ibrox Stadium.

In 23 all-competition appearances, the former Europa Conference League top scorer has managed only six goals and three assists.

The 28-year-old has also been in and out of Rangers starting lineup since the appointment of Philippe Clement as coach, making four starts from a possible nine across all competitions.

After 13 games in the Scottish Premiership, Rangers, who have a game in hand, trail champions Celtic by eight points and Hutton reckons that Rangers need to sign a prolific striker to take Clement’s side to the next level.

“And in attack, Rangers need a striker to help them improve,” Hutton told to Football Insider.

“They need an out-and-out No.9 who is going to score you 20 goals a season.

“Dessers has had opportunities but it’s not worked and Danilo is a very good player but needs to play alongside someone.”

The former Cremonese striker last appeared for Nigeria in a friendly match against Algeria in September 2022. He hasn’t played for the country in over a year.

With so many striking options available to Eagles coach Jose Peseiro, his prospects of joining the squad for the next Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast are remote.
