Prof Tahir Mamman, the newly sworn-in Minister of Education, said in an interview with reporters on Monday that the education sector was the backbone of the country and demanded the utmost attention.

President Bola Tinubu swore in Mamman, a former Vice-Chancellor of Baze University and Minister of State for Education, Dr Yusuf Sununu, on Monday.

The new Education Minister urged Nigerians to support him and his staff in carrying out the necessary reforms in the education sector.

“If the education sector is fixed, every other thing will work perfectly in the country since the ministry is the foundation of all,” Prof Mamman said.

Professor Mamman’s first assignment would be to oversee the student loan initiative announced by the Presidency two months ago.

Both Ministers were welcomed into their offices by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Andrew Adejo, and other essential stakeholders from various education agencies.

They acknowledged the ministry’s challenges and high expectations, notably from the President, but assured that they were driven to improve the country’s educational system.

Furthermore, Dr Sununu, Minister of State for Education, asked for Nigerians’ cooperation and understanding while adjustments are made to improve the country’s educational standards.

Dr Sununu was a former member of the lower chamber, representing Kebbi state’s Yauri/Shanga/Ngaski Federal Constituency before his appointment as a Minister in President Tinubu’s cabinet.
