Police assures permanence of security personnels in Offa

NEWS DIGEST – Following the apprehension of the suspects involved in the bank robbery and killings in Offa of Kwara state last month, the state police command promised to ensure the permanence of the police personnels deployed to the town.

It should be recalled that this newspaper reported the robbery and its aftermath in Offa.

Peter Okasanmi, spokesperson of Kwara state command of Nigerian Police Force (NPF), made this known to NEWS DIGEST in an exclusive chat on Tuesday.

“Our men are going to be there permanently.” He promised.

As confirmed by our journalist, security operatives from NPF; comprising Mobile Police officers, Army Police officers and Armoured Personnel Carrier(APC) have been deployed to the town at various points and junctions.

The Public Relations Officer also spoke on the investigation on the robbery by NPF. Mr. Okasanmi commended the investigative team set up by the Inspector General of Police,

“The team is really working assiduously to nab the offenders.”

“The case is being handled by the IGP team and the suspects have been transferred to Abuja.” He added.

However, in an interview with NEWS DIGEST, residents of the town have complained that the deployed officers only come to the town to extort and leave after a while.

A factory worker, Mr. Vincent stated that considering previous  robberies, the security operatives don’t stay long in the town.

Another resident, Afolabi Olaniyi, added that most times he plies the roads, these security operatives are always collecting bribes.

“Some of them collect 50 naira, some collect 100naira from motorists.” Olaniyi explained.
