The police command in Lagos State has arrested eight suspected armed robbers on its wanted list.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the command’s spokesman, made this known in a statement on Saturday in Lagos.

Mr Hundeyin disclosed that the suspects, who were members of two syndicates, were taken into custody following weeks of discreet and thorough investigation.

According to the spokesman, the suspects specialized at robbing Lagos citizens and taking cars at gunpoint.

Detectives trailed other suspects to Iwo in Osun and Ibadan in Oyo State, he claimed, while some were apprehended in Lagos State.

From the statement, the suspects were between ages 22 and 32.

Mr Hundeyin said the suspects were also allegedly responsible for the murder of a police officer and stealing his rifle in the Iju Ishaga area of Lagos State on December 9, 2023.

He said the rifle has since been recovered during the first set of arrests.

“Other items recovered from the suspects included one pump-action rifle, five locally-made pistols, 30 live cartridges and charms,” he added.
