Nearly 11 years after shooting girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, Paralympic Oscar Pistorius, 37, has been granted parole in South Africa.

Officials confirm his return home, marking the completion of over half of his 13-year sentence. While Ms. Steenkamp’s mother accepts the decision, she emphasizes her family’s enduring “life sentence.”

In 2013, Pistorius claimed he mistook Steenkamp for a burglar, leading to a murder conviction in 2015 after an appeal overturned a culpable homicide verdict. South African law allows parole consideration for offenders who serve half their sentences; Pistorius’s term was set at 13 years and five months.

Strict rules govern his life until 2029, including home confinement, alcohol prohibition, and media silence. Reportedly residing with his uncle Arnold Pistorius in Pretoria, he previously engaged in activities like driving a tractor, library work, and cell cleaning during his prison term, as detailed in documents cited by journalist Karyn Maughan.
