Pastor Laments Lack of Appreciation for Fathers Among Younger Generations

A Christian cleric based in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Pastor Timothy Olatunbosun, has expressed concern that younger generations do not adequately appreciate and celebrate their fathers.

Olatunbosun, who leads Ibara Baptist Church, highlighted in his sermon on Sunday that despite the significant sacrifices fathers make for their families, they are often undervalued by their loved ones. The sermon, titled “Fathers Are Superheroes,” was part of the activities marking the 2024 Father’s Day celebration.

The pastor emphasised that some children question their fathers, asking, “What have you done that nobody has ever done?” He warned them to be careful.

He said, “Everything is about their family, and the family will still look at them as if they have not done anything.

“Why do we say this? When a child is telling the father, ‘What have you done that nobody has ever done?’, and that is the language of this generation. Please, young generation, be careful.”

The cleric exhorted children to appreciate their parents and guardians, saying that they would reap what they sow.

“Some of you don’t appreciate the labor of your father, the labor of your parents, your guardian. You do not appreciate it. By the time it gets to you, your own will become worse because you never prepared for it.”

He added that the generation of “social media and fake life” has greatly affected the family structure and urged fathers to continue playing their roles effectively as role models.
