The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended an ad hoc civilian volunteer captured in a viral video consuming alcohol, labeling the behavior as a blatant violation of ethical standards.

SP Omolola Odutola, the command’s spokesperson, clarified that the individual, not donning any official police attire, was a volunteer engaged as an informant, evident from the absence of a uniform or official insignia. 

Odutola emphasized that the person’s self-recorded act on social media was against the command’s principles and ethical values. Despite being trained to assist in activities like traffic decongestion, civilian volunteers are not authorized to carry out official law enforcement duties. 

The command has taken appropriate measures, detaining the volunteer in line with established police disciplinary procedures. Commissioner of Police Abiodun Alamutu extended holiday wishes to Ogun State residents, reaffirming the force’s commitment to maintaining law and order for the safety of everyone in the state.

“The police frequently provide training for volunteers and ad hoc personnel to serve as informants and assist in activities such as traffic decongestion. These civilian volunteers play a supportive authorized not authorized to perform official law enforcement duties.

“However, appropriate measures have been taken by the command to sanction the said ad hoc volunteer, who has been detained by established police disciplinary measures.

“The Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, extends his warm wishes to all residents of Ogun State for a joyful holiday season, and reiterates that the Police Force remains committed to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety and well-being of all and sundry in the state.”
