Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, inaugurated a 20-member transition committee on Thursday, tasked with facilitating the smooth transfer of power and knowledge to the incoming administration.

The committee, chaired by former Commissioner for Finance Joseph Eboigbe, was established four months ahead of the governor’s term end.

The inauguration ceremony took place at the EXCO Chambers in Government House, with some committee members participating virtually.

Governor Obaseki emphasized the importance of the committee, stating, “Today marks exactly four months until I hand over the government to the next elected governor of Edo State.

As a global best practice, I am establishing a transition team responsible for documenting this administration’s achievements over the past eight years.”

The transition team will collect and organize all documents and materials related to policy decisions made by the current administration.

Governor Obaseki highlighted the creation of a digital and physical data room, where all relevant documents, including contracts, EXCO decisions, presentations, and policy papers, will be stored.

This repository will serve as an institutional memory for future administrations.

“You will compile reports on each area of government intervention, providing recommendations for the next administration.

This documentation will ensure a seamless transfer of power and knowledge,” Obaseki stated.

The final report will include detailed accounts of strategic visions, policy impacts, completed initiatives, and ongoing projects to guide the incoming administration.

The committee is expected to complete its work by October 30, 2024, with the report forming part of the handover during the transition period on November 11, 2024.

Chairman Joseph Eboigbe assured the governor of the committee’s commitment to delivering the report within the stipulated timeline.
